Hello and thanks in advance for your reply. At first my ACER Travel Mate was overheating so i stopped using it and just used my Gateway laptop, but now it overheats too and when either one gets too hot it will just shut down. I just want to fix them myself, if it is at all possible and i would be putting myself in a hardship to go and try to buy another one, i am pretty good at fixing things most of the time, can anyone out there please give me any good advice?

Most Likely you have a build up of dust inside around the fan and heatsink fins so if you are comfortable about taking apart you laptops and clean out the dust it would probably solve your problem. Also when using you laptop avoid putting it on your lap and when using them on a table raise it off the table so there is some airflow under it. Hope this helps.

As hiss said its probably full of dust. Buy a can of air and blow it into the slots where your laptop blows air out. Some canned air products are flamable so be sure to shut down your computer, unplug it, and remove the batery. Be sure to do it outside, it can get messy. If that doesn't work the lint may be too thick in which case the laptop will need to be dissassembled to be properly cleaned
